摘要: The talk begins with a general overview of dynamical systems, a well-known field of applied mathematics with a wide range of applications. These techniques can be used for studying the time evolution of infectious diseases or for studying the time evolution of the Universe, this talk will focus on the latter. After rewriting the cosmological field equations using suitable variables, I will show some simple applications first. This is then generalised and expanded to show how these techniques can be applied to various different cosmological models. At the end I discuss new results involving cosmological fluids with boundary term couplings.


报告人简介: Christian is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics of University College London, and an Honorary Professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. Since September 2023 he has been the head of department of UCL Mathematics.

His main research interests are in theoretical physics and applied mathematics, in particular the mathematical foundations of General Relativity and Cosmology. He also studies continuum mechanics field theories. He has published over 90 papers and his work has received over 8000 citations in total. In 2016 he published an undergraduate introductory textbook on General Relativity and Cosmology with World Scientific, which has been one of the publisher’s best-selling titles since then.
